More than 20 years in the business of Hong Kong immigration and this is the first time I can remember this question ever being raised. So, now you know how to go about HIV Health Checks Hong Kong Visa Application!
QUESTION
Hi Stephen,
I do not see this issue addressed on your web site (which, by the way, is fantastic).
What are the medical requirements for a Canadian citizen applying for a Hong Kong work visa (sponsored through current employer)?Â
Does Hong Kong require HIV testing or other testing, and if so, can those tests be done in the home country? How will the immigration authorities treat an applicant who is HIV+?
Thanks.
ANSWER
Interestingly, unlike most other first world jurisdictions, Hong Kong doesn’t actually have any requirement for health status cheques as part and parcel of the Hong Kong immigration process that covers every single aspect of Hong Kong immigration, from visitor visas through to temporary residence visas, all the way up to, indeed the Right of Abode and becoming permanent residents.
So in relation to your health status, when you make an application, the entire process is silent as to health, so it doesn’t appear in the equation. So don’t have any concerns about the status of your health in any way impinging your ability to become a contributing member to Hong Kong society.

Hi,
I would like to know if Hong Kong accommodates healthy HIV positive candidates? I am currently working in China and recently found out that I am HIV positive.
Your urgent response would be appreciated as my VISA is about to expire.

Hi I am traveling to Hong Kong, I would like to know what are the blood test n certificates are required to submit. If yes do I have to get the certificate attested by Indian government officials.
Once I reach Hong Kong do I have to go for medical test there in Hong Kong.
The Visa Geeza
There is no medical dimension so I don’t get your question.

Hi,
I came accross this issue.
Actually I have the same question and wonder whether the status is still the same – especially about the HIV-Status / Testing.
I read on other boards that there might be testing when you arrive and apply for the resident permit.
Is that true?
Thanks
Jack
The Visa Geeza
Nope – not true.

So just to be 100% sure.
HKSAR has no mandatory testing of foreigners for HIV when applying for a work visa or residency with said work visa and employment in HKSAR?
Would be really helpful to know. I CANNOT find anything on the net about this for Hong Kong, but know from experience that China is backward and in the dark ages in their rules relating to PLHIV.
Medical show you to be HIV+. You are locked up, deported and blacklisted immediately. So backward is China.
Thanks so much.
The Visa Geeza
Yes no mandatory testing
